Flagship project

Egypt's national DGPS network

In 1997 Beacon, with MacDonald Dettwiler of Canada, delivered a complete turnkey national DGPS system for the Egyptian Ports & Lighthouse Authority — six broadcast stations giving mariners better than 5-metre accuracy across the Mediterranean, the Red Sea and the Suez Canal, with dual redundancy in every key element.

Two decades of keeping that network on the air built the track record that carried the same technology down the Nile from Cairo to Aswan for the RTA River Information Services project.
